Yesterday's Classics - A TOS Review

Recently, as a member of The TOS Homeschool Crew
our family received
225 Classic E-books from

Yesterday's Classics has taken books of yesteryear and have formated them into Kindle or EPUB formats.  These are books that were written a century ago about topics that are still just as intriguing.

They are available for iPad, iTouch, Nook, Kindle and other ereaders.  They can also be read on computers after downloading Adobe Digital Editions Program for free. We used the Adobe Digital Editions Program on our laptop and the books formatted beautifully.  Each page fits perfectly into the reader, words display at a large enough font to view comfortably and there is not much scrolling which is a sure-fire trigger to my super sensitive vertigo.  :)

What topics are included in the 225 titles?
Here is a topical list which includes how many books
fall into each category:

Books from Yesterday's Classics have been included in well known curricula such as Ambleside Online, Heart of Dakota, Living Books Curriculum and Tapestry of Grace.  Click to see books used in Ambleside, Living Books Curriculum, and Pageant of History.

The download my family received, including all 225 titles, normally costs $149.95.  It is currently on sale for $99.95 and it always includes a 100% Risk Free Guarantee: If you are not 100% satisfied with your purchase for any reason it will be refunded to you.
Another great asset to this product is that it comes without any Digital Rights Management (DRM) Restrictions.  That means that once you purchase the product it is yours to download onto as many devices as you would like. Once you download it successfully in one format you may then request the entire download in the OTHER format for your other ereaders with no extra cost!!!

Since the product has no Digital Rights Management Restrictions you also have the ability to print all that you would like without worrying about copyright infringement.  Yesterday's Classics also has wonderful email support to assist you with the downloading process.

When you purchase the Yesterday's Classics Bundle you receive:
  • 225 ebooks in either Kindle or EPUB format
  • All illustrations from the original edition
  • Table of Contents to assist your navigating
  • Lists of the books arranged by grade level (Kindergarten and up), genre, author and title
  • Lists of the books with descriptions and thumbnails of the cover
  • A Guide to Ereader Devices and Software
  • and A Guide to Downloading Files and Transferring Them into EReaders.
What did the kids think?
I think we've hit the jackpot.  To be honest there is so much here that we have not had time to dig into it all.  Most of the books are over 100 pages with an illustration here and there.   My oldest child thinks that this product has answered many of his unexpressed dreams.  He LOVES stories and LOVES history.

We have read about Abraham Lincoln and about King Arthur.  We have read about Eskimo children and children from Holland.   We have read fun stories riddled with moral values and lessons that are seen through the lives of forest animals and we have read Bible stories from a book originally published in 1905.

What do I think?  I am thrilled with the notion that I am reading from books that my grandparents very likely could have read from in their childhood!  We hold the strong men and women from the beginning of the last century in very high esteem in our home.  To sit and read books that would have been read by these amazing people and would have molded their thinking, their values and their knowledge base is very exciting.

I do wonder how some of the history included in these books has changed with the research and discoveries of the last century.  I will admit I did not delve too deeply into much of the history prior to this review.  History is one of Hubby's area of expertise and I look forward to him helping us find the areas that have been changed and helping us learn how they have been updated.

I would highly recommend Yesterday's Classics to families who use Living Books and who use Classic Books as the main core of their curriculum.  As my readers know, I love downloads that I will be able to access in the years to come.  I think there is much here for my littles, yet there is plenty more for us to pull from as we reach topics such as Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, Africa, Britain and dig deeper into Biblical History.
